Arthur Allen was a 14 year old general labourer, residing in Fenny Bentley. He was the son of Mary Allen, a charwoman.

Ashbourne News, 1st June 1917

Died of wounds received just before Easter in France. He enlisted in the Sherwoods at the declaration of war, and served in Dublin. His Company commander, Captain Tompkins, wrote: ‘He was a very gallant soldier, devoted to duty, and greatly respected by all who knew him. We shall miss him dreadfully.’
Arthur was aged 20 when he died, and his mother resided in Fenny Bentley. Private Harry Allen, of the Royal Scots, was his brother, and he attended a memorial service to Arthur at the Parish Church whilst home on leave.
